Cisco devices possess a regular serial number, from the serial number you can function out it'beds age group and the area it was constructed.
Easiest ways are to either start opening a TAC ticket and it will ask for the serial number (sh version from the CLI if you can't find it on the device easy) and check the status of the contract for you. Also you can just call the TAC line and they will tell you. TAC in the US is 800-553-2447.

To decipher the serial number, here's how it is usually made up.
Cisco S/N file format is certainly LLLYYWWXXXX.
LLL = Location program code (i.age. FOC = FoxConn China)
YY = Calendar year program code (08 = 2004.09=2005.etc.)
WW = Week code (days 01 to 52)
XXXX = Foundation-34 Alpha dog Numeric Unique identifier (Includes 0 to 9 amplifier; entire alphabet except I amp; O).
